Scholarship Application &
Eligibility Requirements

What are the KC NUCA Scholarships?

The first place KC NUCA Scholarship is a $6,000 scholarship payable at $750.00 per semester for up to eight semesters.  A runner-up KC NUCA Scholarship may be awarded at the committee’s discretion in the amount of $2,000, payable at $250 per semester for up to eight semesters.

Who may apply?
Any senior high school student or current college student who is a child of, or current employee of, a KC NUCA member and who will be enrolling in an accredited college or university for the year beginning in August may apply. The enrollment may be in a curriculum of any number of years, but the scholarship will not exceed eight semesters.  (Applicant must be affiliated with a KC NUCA member in good standing with dues paid at time of application. Applicant must be affiliated with the firm that is the actual KC NUCA member.  Out of area or branch offices of member firms are not eligible.)

How and when do I apply?
Complete the application in accordance with the instructions and mail it to the KC NUCA office at the address provided.  All applications must be received in the KC NUCA office no later than June 16, 2023 by 3:00 PM.

What must accompany the application?
The application MUST be returned along with a transcript of high school grades and college through the latest period after December 31st and a letter of recommendation from a member of the high school or college faculty.  That letter shall include the number of students in the graduating class and the applicant's standing in the class, or current college ranking and GPA.

How will the application be judged?
The scholarship recipients will be selected by the Scholarship Committee based on the general worthiness of the application.  The KC NUCA Scholarship Committee will consider (1) scholastic standing, (2) ACT and/or SAT scores, (3) extracurricular activities, (4) career goals, (5) past employment, (6) essay, (7) relevance of education and career path to our industry, and (8) thoroughness of the completed application.  This is a merit-based scholarship, it is not based on applicant’s needs.  If selected as a finalist by the committee, you MUST attend a pre-selection, in-person interview at the KC NUCA office on or near July 1st (date selected by Committee).  If selected as one of the scholarship recipients, you MUST attend the Scholarship Night Membership Meeting to receive your award EACH YEAR.

If selected, must I maintain eligibility?
To receive semester scholarship checks you must remain enrolled in an accredited college or university and you must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA.  You are required to send a transcript to the KC NUCA office not later than February 1st and June 1st of each year.  You must attend the Scholarship Night Membership Meeting each year to accept your check for the next year, unless there is an emergency.

How will the confidentiality of the application be protected?
When the application has been received by KC NUCA each application is given a number and an acknowledgment is sent to the applicant.  The application is handled only by the staff of the association.  Once this has been done, the first page of the application will be placed in a sealed envelope marked only with the application number.  Staff then reviews the application in detail and removes any and all words or references that provide information relating to the applicant's identity or affiliated KC NUCA Member Company.  The Scholarship Committee will meet at a predetermined time to review only sanitized copies of the application. Should any committee member recognize the applicant through the remaining information, that member will disqualify themselves from consideration of that application and the remaining committee members will make the determinations regarding that application.  Only winning envelopes are opened, and the others are destroyed.

How can I obtain further information?
